🚢 Day 6 – Taipei

As the sun rose, it splashed the sky with vivid oranges and blues, silhouetting a lone island and heralding a fresh day of travel. This stunning sunrise moment set the stage for the day’s adventures.

After a short ride from the pier in Keelung, we began our day at the Confucius Temple that honors the great philosopher in a style befitting his teachings—elegance in simplicity. We marveled at how the quiet grandeur of the temple offered a tranquil respite from the outside world.

We continued our Taipei experience with incense and the hum of motorcycles at the venerable Pao-an Temple, a beacon of spirituality amidst the city’s pulse. Its intricate carvings whispered tales from the largest and oldest temple in Taipei.

Then, stepping back in time, we explored the Lin-An-Tai Old Homestead. The exquisite traditional courtyard home stood as a testament to Taipei’s architectural lineage, adorned with elegant, ornate details.

Midday brought the clatter of dim sum baskets, a symphony of flavors and gelatinous textures in the heart of the city. Each bite was a leap of faith into the local gastronomy. Chris truncated his gastronomic exploration, opting instead for the local brew to satiate his hunger.

Amidst the verdant expanses of the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, we reflected on the legacy of a leader against a canvas of blue skies and gentle clouds. Later, at a local handicraft center, the vibrant crafts told their own stories of Taipei’s rich cultural tapestry. We marveled at the skill and discipline during the changing of the guard.

And throughout it all, Taipei’s motorcycle culture zipped by—a lifeline threading through the city’s streets, an emblem of its dynamic lifeblood. As the day closed, we stood in the shadow of the towering Taipei 101, a modern monolith reaching for the clouds, capturing the spirit of a city always on the move.
