Sadly we are nearing the end, our last day and our last grape, the Pinot Noir. Fortunately for us we were able to sleep again since the optional tour did not excite us. Arriving in Chalon-sur-Saône we hopped on the coach for a short ride from Chalon to Beaune. Knowing nothing more than there would a wine tasting and a visit to Hôtel Dieu we weren’t really sure what to expect.
Next to Châteauneuf-du-Pape this was easily a favorite stop. Wine cellars abound and we had a stop to sample the local wine. Naturally we left with yet another bottle.
Hôtel Dieu. Nothing could have prepared us for this. Built during the Middle Ages we entered this nondescript whitish grey building with seriously sloped slate roof. I think we both had the same thought, um, they brought us here? That is until we entered the court yard. It was like we stepped into another world. Further exploration revealed a place unlike anything we had seen or experienced, complete with odd “people” replicas. I can’t even begin to explain so check it out. http://www.hospices-de-beaune.com/index.php/hospicesdebeaune/L-Hotel-Dieu/Le-Musee
Saturday night meant saying “see you again”, making sure we had addresses, contact information, and applicable social media contacts as we needed to be off the boat at 6:30 am for Lyon to head back to reality. Ugh.
